Hawai‘i has an amazing native and cultural history, and we are cognizant of that with all client projects. If you are new to doing business in Hawai‘i, brushing up on cultural issues here will only make for a richer and more harmonious experience. The following native Hawaiian principles guide our actions daily, and we incorporate them into every project. Here are three simple guideposts that will carry you great distancesthroughout these islands:
Makawalu – A literal translation of the word gives us “eight eyes,” but makawalu can also mean “various.” We have come to use this principle in two ways: firstly, makawalu tells us to always keep an open mind regarding projects, perspectives, solutions and advice; secondly, we use makawalu as a protective agent, using our “eight eyes” to stand watchful of our clients’ image, name, and standing in the community.
E hō‘ihi mai a e hō‘ihi aku, inā ‘a‘ohe ka ‘ihi, e hō‘ihi aku! – “Where respect is received, respect is given, where there is no respect, respect is given!” We find it unequivocally important to conduct our daily operations and handle all business with respect. While you can’t always expect respect in return, what is given usually comes back in some form or another. We represent our clients with dignity and class, and adherence to this principle proves that.
Aloha – Aloha is more than a greeting, more than responsible branding or corporate identity, it is the very essence of our lifestyle in Hawai‘i. Every professional challenge at Pae ‘Āina Communications is taken on with aloha. We pass it on to our clients and show it to our colleagues.
Some may say that Hawai‘i is much more than what meets the eye. While Hawai‘i certainly has many faces, it isn’t just what can be seen, but it’s what captures the heart and the spirit that makes the place so special and will ultimately change the way you do business here.
Hawai‘i’s location in the middle of the Pacific has made it an outpost of cultural and ethnic cross-pollination. Its relative isolation provides fertile grounds for new ideas and concepts to flourish. It is in this setting that an endless number of unexplored opportunities become fruitful, perennial realities. We at Pae ‘Āina Communications are well aware of these possibilities, and we have therefore made it our duty to guide clients along their paths of discovery. We are here to be your storyteller, your liaison, and your peacemaker. We are here to show you our Hawai‘i.
Each island has its own heartbeat and moves at its own pace. Business strategies differ greatly from community to community and certainly from island to island. We understand the subtle shifts and shades and have been exceptionally successful at providing germane advice on doing business throughout all areas of the state.
